New Audiobook: Organize Your Home by Louise Harvey

I am pleased to announce the release of my newest audiobook: Organize Your Home: The Complete Guide to Organizing and Cleaning Your Home in 7 Days by Louise Harvey!

Click to see the title on Audible and hear a sample.

I learned a lot about home organization reading this book. Louise is a master home executive. Even though this is a relatively short book, it is packed with information. I like how she starts out with getting past psychological barriers to decluttering and cleaning. We all get attached to our stuff, we feel too overwhelmed to even begin, or we fear that it’s pointless to even try to get organized because even if we manage to accomplish it our home will just get cluttered again! Louise addresses all of these objections and how to overcome them.

Then, she goes room-by-room in a typical home and gives a specific game plan to declutter and clean every space – even using humor you can relate to (have you really used that egg cooker you bought in the last 6 months?) I found the bathroom and garage sections particularly helpful.

FInally, she offers three different plans that you can implement to make sure your home stays organized. One for those who only want to clean once a week, one for those who want to clean a few times a week, and finally one for those who can take a little time out every day for home maintenance.

This is the kind of thing that, for the most part, we don’t get taught in school, nor by those we live with over the course of our lives. If you want to hear a succinct but useful guide to home organization that you can really follow and stick with if you want to live in a nice, organized home – this is a great place to start.

As with most of my audiobooks, I do have a limited number of review copies available, so if you would like one (in exchange for an honest review) please feel welcome to get in touch with me through one of the contact forms here on my website.

New Audiobook: A Guide to the Present Moment by Noah Elkrief

I am pleased to announce the release of my newest audiobook: A Guide to The Present Moment: How to Stop Believing the Thoughts That Keep You From Feeling Free, Whole, and Happy by Noah Elkrief.

The book is a #1 best seller on Amazon in the personal development/self-help genre on Kindle. It focuses on the idea that thoughts underlie emotions that we don’t want to experience, such as sadness, fear, shame, guilt, anger, and feelings of unworthiness and incompleteness. By identifying the thoughts behind the emotions that cause our suffering, and then reasoning our way out of believing these thoughts through asking ourselves questions meant to provide a “reality check” about whether these thoughts are actually true, we can disbelieve the thoughts and stop suffering from the corresponding unpleasant emotions.

Noah’s book is a deep dive into the practice of identifying and disbelieving thoughts that cause suffering, and offers lots of exercises and questions to help readers do so in their own lives.

I got a lot of value from reading the book and I think it could be very helpful for someone who wants to get lasting relief from emotional pain, if they are willing to do some self-reflection and make use of the exercises and questions provided in the book.

There is an additional section at the end of the audiobook which is an “audio workbook” of questions to help listeners actively engage with the process of using the 5 Steps to the Present Moment that Noah outlines in the book.

More resources can be found on his website and YouTube channel.

For those who appreciate the soft, soothing quality of my voice, you will probably enjoy listening to this.

Single In America Audiobook

I narrated the audiobook version of Single In America, by Dr. J. L. Barkas (the maiden name of Jan Yager, PhD).

This was my second audiobook working with Jan (I also narrated her book, Productive Relationships: 57 Strategies to Build Stronger Business Connections).

Single In America is a classic book written in 1980, with a new introduction written for the audiobook version in 2015. Although the research and figures in the book are from decades ago, the ideas and observations about singleness remain the same.

Jan interviewed hundreds of people who were never married, divorced, separated, widowed, living together as an alternative to marriage, or married. Everyone’s situation was unique, but she drew on themes and threads that she saw running through each category of people and wrote the book based on her observations. There are lots of anecdotes and quotes from the interviews she conducted in the book, some of them quite funny. You can hear a few of them in the audio preview for the book, here:

Becoming An Entrepreneur Audiobook

I’m very pleased to share this chapter from the audiobook version of Becoming An Entrepreneur by my good friend Jake Desyllas. Becoming An Entrepreneur is Jake’s first book, and also his first author-narrated audiobook! He did a phenomenal job of expressing his own unique voice in the audiobook… listening to it, it’s hard to believe it’s his first one. He’s way better than many experienced audiobook narrators I’ve heard!

The way I was involved in helping bring Becoming An Entrepreneur audiobook to life was as its producer and sound editor. Jake is an experienced podcaster, but I helped him adjust his recording setup for audiobook narration, to be more ergonomic, quiet (in terms of background noise), and consistent from session to session. He sent me raw recordings of his narration, and I edited them – removing the outtakes, processing the sound to make Jake’s already-very-pleasant baritone, British accented voice sound extra nice, and formatting it according to Audible.com’s specifications.

He’s shared the Introduction chapter on his podcast, The Voluntary Life. Listen here!

You can purchase the full audiobook here. Review copies are also available – contact Jake at the voluntary life dot com for more information.

In rare cases, I accept audio editing & production projects. If you’re interested in hiring me as your audiobook editor, get in touch with me here!

Ending Aging Audiobook

I’m happy to announce that I’m working on the narrating the audiobook of Ending Aging: The Rejuvenation Breakthroughs That Could Reverse Human Aging in Our Lifetime by Aubrey de Grey and Michael Rae!

I’m very excited to be working on this audiobook. The book has become a foundational work in the human life extension movement. As a scientist myself (I have a PhD in Biochemistry and worked as a research scientist before becoming a professional voice actor), I have followed the SENS foundation and human longevity research for almost the last decade.

Here’s a very short audiobook sample:

The Alpaca Breeding Book – Audiobook

I narrated the audiobook version of The Alpaca Breeding Book, by Dr. K. D. Galbraith of Walnut Creek Alpaca Farm.

This was a great book! Alpaca reproduction is really fascinating. Did you know that male alpacas sing to the females while they are breeding, and the females enter a trance-like state?

I imagine this book would be really useful to alpaca breeders, as Dr. Galbraith meticulously catalogs her experience with alpaca breeding gained over many years.

She also has some adorable photos of alpacas on her website, such as this one:

A Nose for Hanky Panky – Author Interview and Audiobook Preview

nose_hanky_panky_1871

Enjoy this podcast interview with Sharon Love Cook, author of A Nose for Hanky Panky, a humorous mystery novel set in a small, quiet New England town – quiet, that is, until a prominent psychologist is murdered and a witty reporter tries to crack the case.

Sharon and I discuss the process of choosing an audiobook narrator, audiobook production, character voices, the writing process, and more. The podcast ends off with a sample of the audiobook – the entire first chapter! If you’re hooked after hearing it and wanting more, download the full book at Audible here.
